Team Urunji

Urunji Child-Care Trust maintains a small workforce to enable us reduce administration costs. We have 11 paid staff and 19 local volunteers. We also work with Love Volunteers, Volunteer 4 Africa and United Nations Volunteers. Urunji has a board that consists of members from both the financial and third sector.

Every person who gives a hand in the affairs of Urunji has a duty of faithful service to the Trust and the people we serve. In view of this, our selection of staff and board members is lengthy and is based on a broad range of qualifications and personality tests. Want to join Team Urunji? Roxanne Fiala is the Chairperson for the Urunji USA board. After 17 years as the IT Director for the City of Grand Forks, ND, she retired and had the opportunity to visit Malawi where she began working with Urunji.

Her passions include leadership, women empowerment, and encouraging others to reach their highest potential. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration

BreAnna Louise is the Project Manager and coordinates donations from the USA. She is also a member of the USA board. BreAnna is the founder and creator of the blog Crafty Coin and is currently based in New York City. BreAnna left her work in Chicago as an Executive Assistant and Marketing Coordinator to pursue her dream of volunteering in Africa where she was connected to Urunji.

She has passions for learning about other cultures, languages, and cooking. She has a Bachelor of Arts in French.

Volunteer Coordinator & Media Manager

Ty Rood is the Volunteer Coordinator and Media Manager for Urunji and a member of the USA board. He is a New York City based actor. In addition to acting, Tyler has worked as a Youth Enrichment Instructor for the YMCA Chicago and has taught children of all levels, including those with special needs and English language learners.

His passions include music, fitness, and working with others to understand their backgrounds and culture. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre.

Ian Maliseni is the Executive Director and Founder of Urunji Child-Care Trust. After visiting Nathenje Village outside Malawi's capital city of Lilongwe, Ian was drawn to two children who he started to sponsor. This sponsorship led to the creation of Urunji in 2006 with the mission to help local communities who suffer from extreme poverty. Previously, Ian worked for the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and World Vision Malawi, both of which helped shape the vision of Urunji

Ian currently resides in Lilongwe with his wife and children. He is an avid reader, passionate gardner, and strives to be a lifelong learner. He holds a Masters in Business Administration.

Mary Michael

Mary Michael is the Programme Coordinator for the India country office. She joined Urunji as part of the Malawi team before moving to India to manage the country office there. She has over 20 years’ experience working on social projects and was instrumental in setting up the Village Savings and Loan Associations for Urunji.

Chikondi Jamu

Chikondi manages administrative matters and ensures the smooth running of the office. She works hand-in-hand with volunteers, suppliers and visitors. Part of her work involves preparing payments for the Trust, and managing day-to-day affairs.

She is the oldest member of Team Urunji and will clock 10 years with the Trust in July 2016.

With excellent skills in both ICT and Management, Chikondi also works as an instructor. She has been so instrumental to our Girls Programme.
